Homily (Reflection) for Tuesday after
Epiphany of the Lord (08th January, 2019)
1Jn 4:7-10;
Ps 71:1-4.7-8. (R. cf. v. 11);Mk 6:34-44.
Topic: Do something positive yourself.
Jesus set out to a lonely place to offer His apostles an
opportunity to rest after their mission. But as he went ashore, He saw a great
crowd who had gathered before their arrival from all the towns. Jesus taught
them till late when His apostles came to Him with this suggestion: “This is a
deserted place, and the hour is now very late; send them away so that they may
go into the surrounding country and villages and buy something for themselves
to eat” (Mk 6:35b-36). And Jesus
said to them “You give them something to eat”. Although they could not believe
their ears because they thought it would take them months to make it possible.
At Jesus’ instruction, they brought the five loaves of bread
and two fishes they had. Jesus took them, blessed them, broke them, and gave them
to the people. After they had eaten to their satisfaction, the apostles filled
twelve baskets with the remains.
Never neglect what you have. Just put it/them into good use
to see what God will do with them. Again, appreciate whatever you have.
Furthermore, whatever you have is for the good of all, cf. 1Cor 12:7. Sharing it/them with others will make it/them multiply.
Finally, Jesus taught the people and also gave them something
to eat. God wants us to put our words into action. By doing so, we shall make
this world a better place.
Bible Reading: 2Cor 8:1-15.
Thought for today: Appreciate whatever you have.
Let us pray: God, help us to appreciate all your
gifts and to use them for the good of all – Amen.
