Homily (Reflection) for Monday of the
Fifth Week of Lent (08th April, 2019) on the Gospel
Dan 13:1-9.15-17.19-30.33-62 or Dan 13:41-62;
Ps 22 (R.v.4);
Jn 8:12-20.
Topic: Follow the Light.
Jesus testified in today’s gospel, “I am the light of the
world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light
of life.” Jesus also said to His apostles, “You are the light of the world” (Matt 5:14).
Light is meant among other things to give light to people,
cf. Matt 5:15; Mk 4:21; Lk 8:16. 11:33.
However, the presence of light is one thing and accessing it is yet another.
Hence we read, “but if your eye is not sound, your whole body will be full of
darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!” (Matt 6:23).
Jesus has come for all to see. Whoever chooses not to follow
Him will have him/herself to blame, cf. Jn
3:19.
Jesus cautions us, “While you have the light, believe in the
light, that you may become sons of light” (Jn
12:36a). And one can only show that he/she is in the light through love of neighbour,
cf. 1Jn 2:9-10. Whoever walks in the
darkness does not know where he/she goes, cf. Jn 12:35. Let us therefore follow Jesus, the Light of the world to
lead us always, cf. Jn 13:15; 1Pt 2:21.
Otherwise, we are to stumble and fall.
Bible Reading: Jn 3:14-21.
Thought for today: Jesus is the light.
Let us pray: Jesus, true Light of the world illumine
our paths that we may never stumble in darkness – Amen.
