Homily (Reflection) for Wednesday of
the Sixth Week in Ordinary Time (II) (19th February, 2020) on the
Gospel
Jas 1:19-27;
Ps 14:2-5. (R. v.1);
Mk 8:22-26.
Topic: As He wills.
A blind man was brought to Jesus in today’s gospel at
Bethsaida for healing. Jesus took the man out of the village, put His saliva on
his eyes, and laid His hands on him. After the first laying of hands, people
looked like trees. Jesus again laid His hands on his eyes and he was able to
see everything clearly. He then sent the man to his home with these words, “Do
not even go into the village.”
We remember that everything is possible with God, cf. Matt 19:26; Lk 18:27. Yet in today’s gospel Jesus laid His hands twice on the
blind man before he could see clearly.
The bible did not tell us why it happened this way. However, it
did tell us that Jesus is an example of suffering and patience, cf. Jas 5:10; 1Tim 1:16. He has given us an
example to follow, cf. Jn 13:15.
We read that “Salvation belongs to our God who sits upon the
throne, and to the Lamb!” (Rev 7:10).
Again “that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth
and under the earth” (Phil 2:10). However,
as we approach God, we should not forget that “Our God is in the heavens; he does whatever he pleases” (Ps 115:3). What we look for may happen immediately
or not but ultimately at His own time, cf. 2Thess
2:6; 1Tim 6:15.
With God in our midst, we shall not be moved; He will help us
right early, cf. Ps 46:5. But
everything must be as He wills, cf. Matt 6:10.
Bible Reading: Phil 2:1-18.
Thought for today: Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven (Matt 6:10).
Let us pray: Lord, give us the patience we need
to wait always for the appropriate time – Amen.
