Homily (Reflection) for Monday after Epiphany of the Lord
1Jn 3:22-4:6;
Ps 2:7-8.10-11. (R. v. 8);
Matt
4:12-17.23-25.
Topic: Repent.
In today’s gospel Jesus began His Galilean ministry with the central message: “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near” (Matt 4:17).
Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues
and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and curing every disease and every
sickness among the people. All the sick, those who were afflicted with various
diseases and pains, demoniacs, epileptics, and paralytics, were brought to
Jesus and He cured them (Matt 4:24).
Jesus calls on all of us to repent and also to bring our
problems, disappointments, heartbreaks, joys, sorrows, and so on to Him. He has
come to reconcile us with the Father and also to take our infirmities and our
diseases away, cf. Eph 2:16; Matt 8:17. We ought to listen to Jesus
and be healed of our infirmities, cf. Lk
5:15.
Bible Reading: Is 53:1, 3-7.
Thought for today: Come to Jesus.
Let us pray: God give us the grace to listen to
your word and be healed of our infirmities – Amen.
